"Indeed, it was a clear trial. (Abraham succeeded in it) and We ransomed him (Ishmael) for a great sacrifice. Thus do We reward the doers of good."
The Quran, the holy book of Islam, mentions this test of the Prophet Abraham and his success in it, an idea that we also find in various forms in other Abrahamic religions, namely Judaism and Christianity.
Islamic religious scholar Javed Ahmed Ghamidi has researched that the history of sacrifice begins with the first human being, Hazrat Adam.
The Quran states, "We have prescribed for every nation the worship of sacrifice, that they may mention the name of Allah over the livestock which Allah has provided for them."
According to Islamic teachings, this ancient worship was specifically prescribed by Allah as a way of expressing gratitude to Him.
